Members of the University and General Public are invited to an afternoon of exploring the Reformation in the 500th Anniversary year. An afternoon of talks and discussion at Cohen Quad will culminate in a special, festal choral evensong with a performance of Bach’s Reformation Cantata, ‘Nun danket alle Gott’: https://www.oxfordbachsoloists.com/event/reformation-500-nun-danket-alle-gott/

Programme

2.30pm: Registration and coffee in Cohen Quad

2.55pm Introduction by the Rector

3.00pm: Setting the Scene: The Reformation, its Reception then and now (Rev’d Andrew Allen, Chaplain and Official Fellow)

3.45pm: The Reformation at Exeter (Dr John Maddicott, Emeritus Fellow in History)

4.15pm: Music and the Reformation (Prof. Dr Henrike Lahnemann, Professor of Mediaval and Early Modern German, University of Oxford)

5.00pm: Refreshments

There will be an exhibition of the College’s Reformation holdings running throughout the afternoon.

6.00pm: Festal Choral Evensong. Exeter’s renowned choir joins with the orchestra of the Oxford Bach Soloists to perform the Reformation Sunday cantata, ‘Nun danket alle Gott’ BWV 192. The preacher will be Bishop Lars Muller-Marienburg, Bishop of Lower Austria

7.00pm: Drinks
